Facts: National Geographic Society (NGS) hires independent-contractors to take photos for National Geographic Magazine. Over a period of 30 years, Greenberg completed 4 assignments for NGS. NGS acquired all rights to photos taken on the jobs and selected for publication. For the first 3 assignments, the copyrights to the photos were returned to Greenberg in 1985. For the last batch of photos, it was agreed that copyrights would be returned to the artist 60 days after publication. In 1996, NGS worked with Mindscape, Inc. to produce a 30 CD-Rom library (“The Complete National Geographic”-CNG) containing all issues of National Geographic Magazine.
