When I first begin to read this short story it didn’t tickle my fancy at all. Ms Kincaid the writer come from West Indian Island nation of Antigua. I felt that she pulled this story from experience she had with her own mother. Seemly enough her mother wasn’t a very positive person. With such negative experience she had with her mother, I would put her in the category of man verse man. The question is, was her mother afraid she would become like her or was her self-conscious mine afraid of becoming a slut. So many questions were up in the air from the on going negative writing.
