According to the National black women’s health project, every 9 seconds a woman is punched, slapped, kicked, manipulated or otherwise physically and emotionally abused by a man she knows. Domestic violence, partner abuse, and battering refer to “the physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse, performed by one person against another.” Domestic abuse happens in all socioeconomic levels, from urban to rural women, young or old, with child and childless, single, married and divorced and within all religious, racial, ethnic groups and geographical locations.
