In A Man for All Seasons the cardinal theme is the law. This concept is embodied in its two extremities by Cromwell and More, who are conflicting characters in a continuous dialectical confrontation. The play tackles their diverging and fundamentally different conceptions of what law is and its origins, its faceted uses, relating them both to their personal relationship with it. We shall unveil the idealism and pragmatism, truth and concealment, unfoldingments and deviations of their different perspectives in a time when belief, power, and rights, were intertwined in a sometimes deadly predicament.
