The East Pacific Green turtle is a very endangered animal that is being threatened on a daily basis by poachers and native traditions. In Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, celebrations such as Easter, a birthday, an arrival of important guests; call for a meal of caguama, or turtle. Poaching of their eggs has also raised the endangered level for this species. The selling of a mature turtle is worth about $50 - $200, and restaurants make a profit up to $400 making “turtle soup”.
