Jacques Rousseau was a French humanist & philosopher of the17 century he was one of the so called “philosophes” of the enlightment age. His main contribution to the social & political sciences was a concept call the social contract. A concept that influence deeply U.S constituents when they were drafting the U.S constitution in 1787. John Locke was a British philosopher of the 17 century that also embraced the idea of the social contract. But his more important contribution was the theory that men were born with some natural unalienable rights and that the point of the social contract was to protect and permit the exercise of these rights.
