Acts of the Apostles begins with the Gospel of Luke, is the early story of the church after Jesus’ ascention into martyrdom. Acts is a continuation of Luke, which is addressed to Theophilus, an unknown reader. The author is identified in second-century Christian tradition as Luke, a traveling companion of the missionary of Paul and Tarsus. Most modern scholars agree that Acts and Luke should be accredited to the same author, but have been more reluctant to identify him. It is believed that he wrote between the years 80 and 90 and may have been an associate of Paul (Saul).
