A piece that had caught my eye in ART HISTORY by Marilyn Stokstad was the small ivory piece entitled Woman from Brassempouy, an artifact found in France estimated to be from around 22,000 BC. This tiny figure which stands only 3 cm tall has quite a bit of presence, a direct result of careful craftsmanship no doubt. Although there have been many speculations over the use of objects like this one, it is clear to see that whatever purpose this tiny figure had, there was a reverence for the individual it was modeled after if not for the female icon in general.
