The world is shrinking in relevance to time and space. The physical distance remains the same nevertheless it’s accessibility has greatly increased. However the benefits of shrinkage has been unevenly distributed. The shrinking world appears to be beneficial only to developed countries and not to developing nations. The developed Northern regions (refer to Map 1.0) have centered themselves to a network of interdependence and interconnection. While the remaining developing countries “are simply ‘of the map’ of globalization, missed out by the developments in telecommunications or transport” (Allen & Hamnet, 1997, p. 253).
