Tessellations can be defined as designs in which positive and negative shapes of equal importance that cover an entire surface. This principal of design, which is based on the work of M.C. Escher, provides countless limitations and investigations for advanced art and geometry classes. Tessellations come with tremendous amount of teaching possibilities, discovery, and fun.
Maurtis Cornelis Escher was born in Leeuwarden, Holland on June 17, 1989 as the fourth and youngest son of a civil engineer. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Arnhem where Escher spent most of his childhood years. After failing his highscool exams, Escher somehow managed to enroll into the School for Architecture and Decorative Arts located in Haarlem.
