There was a soon -to-be author of great acclaim born on March 27, 1955 in Clones, Monaghan County, Ireland (Contemporary Writers). His parents, Bernard and Dympna, sent their son to St. Patrick’s Training College from 1971until 1974 (CLC). After graduation, he began teaching at Kingsbury Day Special School in London, a school for those that are learning disabled (CW). He started writing radio plays and novels later on in the 1980’s. His novel entitled The Butcher Boy won him great acclaim, and the Booker Prize. Neil Jordan bought the rights to the story, which enabled McCabe to quit teaching and put all his energy towards writing (Contemporary Literary Criticism).
