Sophocle’s Oedipus the king does fit into the working definition of tragedy. Oedipus is courageous, he deals with powerful forces within and outside him and he does that with dignity that reveals the breadth and depth of the human spirit in the face of failure, defeat and horrible circumstances.
The play, Oedipus the king, presents us with Oedipus as a courageous individual. There are numerous examples for his courage throughout the play but his courage is implicated the most from his unique characteristics.
