Who’s History is it?
The greater Kansas City region has a rich Native American history dating back hundreds of years. Today, there are few reminders of this history other than the occasional name of a street or subdivision. The responsibility of keeping the memories of this region’s Indian heritage alive has landed in the hands of local history museums. After visiting Fort Osage and the Shawnee Mission State Historical site, I’m afraid that we may be in danger of losing this valuable piece of history forever.
