The flute is a treble woodwind instrument. The player holds the instrument in a horizontal position and produces the sound from the instrument by blowing across the hole in the head of the instrument. Modern day flutes are usually made of metal. They have thirteen tone holes and several other holes for finger movements.
There are several different types of flutes. The piccolo is a small flute, which gives off a very high-pitched tone or sound. The alto flute, also known as flute d’ amour is larger and has wider holes than the regular flute. The bass flute a broad and very richer tone because of its lower pitch.
