Light is often associated with goodness and moral excellence. Light radiates the essence of a human being unlike darkness, which usually represents evil and utter wickedness. Light also make things visible and gleam such as finer characteristics and qualities of people. In this novel, the killing of Simon is inspired by the evil and hatred within the other boys, but his funeral displays a righteousness that is representative of Simon.
