The Crucible and the Rapture of Canaan Characters rebelling

Religion has an important role in many people’s lives. It affects each person differently. Even thought it may not be noticeable, religion does have an impact on a person’s character and behavior. Both novels The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Rapture of Canaan by Sheri Reynolds show how religion and how a community abides by the Bible affects a person’s character. Although they can be very similar in this aspect, they also have clear differences. The strictness of laws the communities that Ninah and Abigail live in compel both of them to act out against it. They rebel by committing different sins and manipulating people, then justify what they did by saying it was god or the devil telling them to do these acts.
