Tellurium is a semi-metallic element on the periodic table. The name "tellurium" is derived from a Latin term for earth, "tellus." Tellurium is in group 16, period 5 on the periodic table of elements. It is a Halogen. It was discovered in 1783 in gold ores in Trannsylvania, Romania. The chief inspector of mines Franz Joseph Muller von Reichenstein discovered it, but M. Klaproth isolated it in 1798 and named it, continuing Muller von Reichenstein's work.
