The dialogue between Rachael and Eli has shown the main theme of the film, "Clashes of culture". During this dancing scene, the theme has been made even more obvious because of the unrequited love between Rachael and Book. As Eli was angry about Rachael being closely related with an Englishman, he has stated that it is Rachael that brought this Englishman into house, and also regarded John Book as "The gun of the hard". This has indicated that typical Amish like Eli, refuses any cause of violence into Amish community. This rejection of gun and violence also implies to John Book and any other Englishman outside the Amish community. This has shown the difference of Englishman of the old, typical Amish people.
