LAN Basics

The components of a network consist of two major areas, a physical and a logical. Physical network is the collection of hardware and peripherals lined together to build the network. Logical network is the software such as Windows NT, which manages the information going though the physical network (CompuMaster CD-ROM). One of the physical components is a network server. The server is the heart of the network. It is a computer that contains the network’s operating system and its controls all LAN operations (Sandler 506). Server usually must be very fast because it handles so many tasks that, if they weren’t the whole network would slow down.
