In Beowulf, Christian and Pagan morals exist throughout the epic. Although Beowulf seems to be written for a Pagan audience, Christian symbols also appear. Some authors have favored the Christian symbolism, however some felt that Paganism influenced more of the epic. In the article, Christian Elements in “Further Celebration at Heorot”, Steve Little states, “man survives only through the protection of God, that all earthly gifts flow from God, and that the proper bearing of man is to be humble and unselfish”(Little 1). Little shows that in order to survive you must follow God, and obey his laws. This shows how Little agrees that there is a strong Christian element in the epic Beowulf.
