Abstract: Lawrence is a novelist who writes with a mission to diagnose the evils of society and suggest cures. In this essay I want to discuss the problems that troubled him in the novel. He is chiefly concerned with human relationships: the relationship between man and woman, the relationship between man and his environment, the relationship between instinct and intellect. He cherishes a passionate live for the beauty of the natural world, and has a strong reaction against the mechanical civilization.
