Guernica- analasis
|
The most famous of all twentieth century protest paintings is Pablo Picasso’s Guernica (1937). This vast work, nearly eight metres long , was Picasso’s response to one of the greatest outrages of the Spanish civil war. Picasso’s Guernica was completed at a time when there was not much rest and peace in the world and that is evident from the expressive lines, shape and forms used in the artwork. The painting was typical to Picasso’s style at the time, which was cubist. Lines, shapes and forms were jagged and angular.
The main theme of Picasso’s artwork is of the course death, and destruction that was caused during the Spanish civil war. I believe through Guernica Picasso was aiming to show his response to the bombing of Guernica
