The Fall of The House of Usher and The Oval Portrait written by Edgar Allan Poe are both very similar, as expected when written by the same author. I think that one controlling idea that links the two stories together is the way the setting affects the moods and feelings of all characters. The setting is the subconscious feelings represented by the characters. In both stories the moods and feelings of the characters control the plot and the reactions to the plot.
