What is beneficence and why should it be my responsibility? According to Webster’s Dictionary, beneficence is the quality or state of doing or producing good, especially performing acts of kindness and charity. So how does this relate to athletics? Well by its definition, it not only states that we should do good, but it also implies that we should refrain from harming others. So anyone who plays sports, or does anything that involves other people, has a responsibility to be beneficent. When we are playing we need to be careful, and not look for ways to inflict harm or injury on other players. But beneficence goes even farther than the playing field; it goes into our everyday life.
As athletes we have people who look up to us
