It is interesting how different it was in the past. In contrast to my indoctrination of color over the years, I had vastly underestimated the task of defining color based on pure observation, and took the theories of Cheverul, Munsell and Ostwald totally for granted. These three paved the way for my use of color.
Munsell was a true master of the obvious, using the lessons (and direction)of Runge’s three dimensional model of color, to create a truly quantifiable scale of color based on electronic measurements in order to standardize color for industry.
