The first step in a job description would be to perform a job analysis study. This process is for the analyst to become as familiar as possible with the jobs to be analyzed. Even if the analyst has been a member of the personnel department or has worked in the company for several years, it is suggested that he or she review as much material as possible about the jobs and the characteristics of the industry. Analysts usually obtain information for this purpose from the following sources:
1. Books, periodicals, and other literature on technical subjects relevant to the jobs that have been selected for analysis.
2. Flow charts, organizational charts, and job descriptions that have been prepared for the organization in the past.
