The ending to William Shakespeare‘s King Lear is argued to be the most tragic ending of all Shakespeare‘s tragedies. It’s not hard to understand why this argument has been made, when most of the main characters in the play die in the last scene. Some would also argue that Lear died happily because of the redemption he made with his youngest daughter, Cordelia, although this is not the case. Lear is miserable throughout most of the play because of the betrayal of his eldest daughters, Goneril and Raegan. When he finally makes peace with Cordelia, the daughter he banished, she dies too.
