The Kiss, by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, is one of the most unique and interesting paintings I have ever studied. The piece was painted between 1907 and 1908, and is included in the style and movement of Art Nouveau. Its median is oil on canvas, and stands fairly large measuring, 180x180cm. Even though this piece is depicting only one action, a kiss, it can be interpreted in many different ways. According to the book, Klimt, by Gilles Nereʹt, The Kiss can be seen as “…the reconciliation and union of the sexes.” (p57) or it can also be seen as the separation between the men and women.
