The Battle of Gettysburg was the turning point in the American Civil war. The battle was fought between the North and the South due to a conflict between these two cultures. The battle was fought for only three days, from July 1st through July 3rd in the year of 1863.
The Confederacy, the South, had an agricultural economy producing tobacco, cotton, and corn, with huge plantations owned by rich white men. They lived off the labor of sharecroppers and slaves, charging high dollars for the use of their land that they farmed. The Confederates consisted of white males wanting independence from federal dictates. The Union, the North, had an economy of manufacturing and the minorities were better off than those in the South.
