Simon as a christ figure in Lord of the flies

In a novel such as “Lord of the Flies”, where items of symbolism are used generously, and skillfully, one of the most desperate symbols exploited is Simon being a Christ figure. However, Simon shouldn’t be excessively related to religion and mystical beliefs. Otherwise his real importance and purpose of existing in the novel would be partly overlooked.
