Virginia Woolf and Medea on Feminism

The real meaning of feminism is the belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. Virginia Woolf has a section from A Room of One’s Own named “Shakespeare’s Sister” which will be explained in detailed later in the essay. But the main argument from the book is that women have been excluded from the essential pre-conditions for authorship of high quality literature. Women writers have been unable through history to compete on the same terms as men due to lack of educational opportunities, support from fathers and husbands, and through lack of a physical space in which to write. Also Woolf considers the absence of women from history books, and the lack of knowledge readers have about women’s material conditions
