On January 8, 2003 a very controversial court decision on wartime presidents finally reached its end. After US citizen Yasser Esam Hamdi was captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan, many constitutional issues arose about whether he was being held indefinitely. This case came to a close as a court ruled in favor of giving more, unrestricted power to the president in times of war. This ruling also outlined many new powers that are being given to military officials during the occurrence of a war.
