The Irish people had their own reasons to go leave Ireland and immigrate to The United States. The people were poor, because there was an overly large population. The Act of Union of 1803 incorporated the island into British polity, so it became under British policy and with the prospect of Protestant masters over the Catholic Irish, many people started to immigrate to the United States. Irish immigrants made up a third of all the immigrants. The British Passenger Act attempted to send the immigrants to Canada instead of the United States. Even more Irish people managed to get into the US, because the fares were cheaper and they simply walk across the border.
