Classical republicanism is a theory that holds that the best kind of government is the one that promotes the common welfare instead of the interests of one class of citizens. Another philosophy, the natural rights philosophy, John Locke assumed that human beings had rights in a “state of nature” and create government in order to protect those rights. In terms of political philosophy, they both promote the common good. However, the majority of today’s American society is liable to be dependent on the natural rights philosophy idea because it serves the Declaration of Independence.
