Lord of the Flies- Anti-Intellectual
|
Being anti-intellectual means that you are against anyone who has any intelligence, even if it could be put into good use. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, there were two intellectuals who throughout the book were ridiculed then later killed. Although it seems awkward that someone would want to hurt someone who could help a society, in this novel the boys on the island murder two intellectuals. The two intelligent characters from Golding’s novel, Simon and Piggy, were trying to help everyone who was stranded on the island. The island is anti-intellectual because the boys turn into brute savages and almost bring upon their own downfall.
