The internet has grown to be one of the most widely used mediums in America today by all ages. Information of all kinds is available to everyone at the click of a mouse, because of this protecting children from obscene and indecent materials has been a subject of debate.
In 1996 the Telecommunications Act was passed, part of it was the Communications Decency Act, which was supposed to protect children from indecent and obscene materials on the web. The problem with this and the main reason it was struck down by the Supreme Court was because it was incredibly vague in what it prohibited.
