Catcher in the Rye is a mysterious and complex story that embodies many hidden symbols representing adolescent life. However, the symbols chosen are written from an adolescent’s perspective, and this is important to remember as others may have conflicting ideas of those very symbols. For example, Holden’s brother, DB, could symbolize someone that Holden wants to emulate, but for me or others DB may be someone Holden never wants to see again or become in any way. I believe that because these judgments can be received in so many different ways the story is made all the better. In the course of the story, Holden grows into somewhat of a man, and while doing this, realizes who he wants to become. As he makes mistakes and learns rewarding
