Much to people’s surprise, earthquakes occur beneath us everyday. Some earthquakes feel like a big truck driving by while others can knock people off of their feet with dishes tumbling all around. Some earthquakes are so mild, one may be occurring at this very moment and no one would even know.
It is amazing how much damage a 10 second earthquake can do. Depending on the magnitude, earthquakes can tragically kill 1000's of people while injuring even more. In September ‘99, an earthquake hit Athens Greece. The magnitude was 5.9. Several were killed and hundreds of people were missing. Dozens of people were injured by glass, concrete, and falling objects (1).
