The movie U-571 had a lot of historically accurate parts. Most of the movie was accurate from all the research I have done. The enigma code device, the submarine weapons, and the submarine tactics used by the military.
The enigma code machine the Germans used in the movie was very historically accurate. The nicknames the Americans gave to the enigma device were factual in the movie also. Up until 1942, the enigma was called the dolphin. Then after that, the difficulty to break the code skyrocketed and the name given by the Americans coincided. They named it the shark. In the movie they used both names.
