The Notebook begins with an eighty year old man, Noah Calhoun telling the story of his life, the good and bad, and having the knowledge that his life has been lived to the fullest because he has loved another so deeply. Every day he recounts the story of his life to a woman down the hall from him at the nursing home. The story then moves back to the past. It is 1946, and Noah Calhoun has returned to North Carolina after World War II. With an inheritance, he buys a plantation that he has dreamed about since he was a child. While working on the plantation, Noah is constantly reminded of his first love, Allie. Meanwhile, Allie Nelson is sitting in a hotel room pondering what has brought her back to New Bern, North Caro
