Explain and discuss Leibniz’s definition of monads as basic substances in the universe. A monad is the most basic substance in the universe. Monads enter into composites with other monads to form the universe as we know it. There are no parts or figure and you cannot break monads into something smaller. Since there are no parts to a monad it cannot be altered. Monads have no windows for anything to go in or out. Monads must have some qualities though or else they would not even be beings. In fact every monad is different from another. Monads are subject to internal change. This change is continual in each monad.
