Water: The importance of keeping it clean

Earth is unique in that it is the only known celestial figure that contains water, which is one of the main important substances needed for survival. You can survive about a month without food, but only 5 to 7 days without water. Without water your body becomes dehydrated. Plants and animals also depend on water and will die off with out it. So therefore, lack of water (dehydration) can directly cause a shortage of food (starvation). (American Water Works Association)
Even though the earth is 70-80% covered in water, only 3% of that water is fresh water. The other 97% is salt water. Of the 3%, 2% is frozen (AWWA). The situation gets worse. Of that 1% that is available, it can be contaminated with pollutants and chemicals.
