In the play Oedipus Rex conflicts arise almost immediately and are sustained in a rising and falling pattern. Most of the tension surrounds the main character, Oedipus King of Thebes, and is attributed to the many flaws Oedipus possesses. Pride, stubbornness, anger, and suspicion encompass Oedipus and eventually these flaws lead to his demise. Conflicts within the play occur suddenly and are either resolved with finality or dissolved momentarily.
