Should Canada retain it’s historic connection to the British
|
Michael Bliss a Toronto historian calls the British Monarchy in Canada “archaic....foreign....hereditary privileged....irrelevant...relics that should be preserved in a museum.” (Trent). This statement reflects the sentiments of anti-Monarchy groups in Canada. Canada needs to dump the Monarchy and choose a head of state of her own. This essay will discuss three reasons why the Monarchy should be dumped. Firstly, it drives us apart instead of unifying us. Secondly it interferes with establishing a national identity. And thirdly the Monarchy represents an absorbent cost to Canadian citizens.
