Bernard Cornwell's novel Sharpe's Triumph of the Sharpe series is a historical novel about the battle of Assaye in 1803 and the events leading up to it. The novel is about Richard Sharpe a sergeant in his majesty’s 33rd regiment, who makes a very uncommon jump into the officer’s mess as an ensign for an act of bravery in saving the life of Sir Arthur Welsley.
Sharpe is sent to Chasalgaon an East India Company outpost to fetch some ammunition back to the main camp. A group of deserters still in the uniform of the East Indian Company, march into the camp led by a man named Dodd, he orders his company to slaughter everyone.
