The fundamental institution of marriage
Should society accept and legalize same-sex marriage as part of the current definition of marriage? This issue is discussed by both Lisa Schiffren’s article, “Gay Marriage, an Oxymoron” published by the New York Times, and Jonathan Rauch’s article, “For Better or Worse? The Case for Gay (and Straight) Marriages” published by New Republic. Schiffren believes that same-sex marriage should not be legalized because it doesn’t follow the Judeo-Christian tradition and doesn’t center around the creation and nurture of offspring.
