The year was 1970 when general motors decided to make a big change in the engine size on the chevelle because of competition with other muscle cars during the year of the automobile. The general motors corporation decided to put 454 horse power on a car that would normally have only 396 on the ss models. This lead to the great power of a 1970 Chevelle which had a big effect on the road as Ford joined the struggle to make a high quality muscle car.
