Ralph Ellison had an acrimonious childhood but he did not let his misfortunes restrict or interfere with his life-long dreams and self-set goals. He undoubtedly became one of the most influential authors of the 20th century. Ellison went on to write many novels,short stories, essays, and monographs. When asked about Ellison’s works, Norman Mailor once replied, “His talent is too exceptional to allow for any casual predictions” and that “It is a mistake to write prescriptions for a novelist as gifted as Ellison.”
