Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar was born on July 24, 1783 in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela; and died of tuberculosis in Santa Marta, Colombia on September 17th, 1830 at the age of 47, after he resigned the presidency of the Republic of Colombia. Bolivar was the son of a very wealthy and known family in the city of Caracas. Long after his parents death he was sent to Spain to finish with his education. He traveled throughout Europe. He went to France where he went to the crowning of Napoleon and associate with the French elite. The French philosophers and thinkers of the time influenced him to the Idea of independence.
