On the Hawaiian Islands the locals have a saying, "malama ka aina." This means, “take care of the land.” Kamainas or residents to the islands take pride in the pure beauty of the beaches, and the countryside that they call home. In the beautiful mountains of Hawaii you will find hiking trails that lead to breath taking views and amazing waterfalls. Most people will bring water bottles, snacks, and even complete meals to suck in the experience. While this can be a good thing, the repercussions of forgetting to throw away the trash and instead leaving it on the trail causes problems for the natural rain forest environment.
